Can I clean it up myself?
Not safely. Contaminated water carries bacteria and viruses, and the materials it soaked into cannot be disinfected, they have to be removed. It needs protective equipment and proper disposal.
What has to be thrown out?
Carpet, pad, drywall that was wicked into, particleboard, upholstered furniture and anything porous the contaminated water reached. Hard, non-porous items can usually be cleaned and disinfected.
Is it safe to stay in the house?
Stay out of the affected area entirely until it is decontaminated and dried. If it is a main-level bathroom or a large area, plan to be elsewhere for a day or two.
How fast do you respond?
A crew is dispatched as soon as you call, any hour. Contaminated water sitting only makes the removal larger.
Will there be a smell after?
